One of the hottest interiors trends of late has been copper and I must confess in being a little late to the party. It just didn’t appeal to me when it first started popping up all over the place, reminiscent instead of massive saucepans in stately homes.
Over time though despite my initial reluctance it has grown on me so we decided to pick a copper industrial-style lampshade for our dining room. We’re not doing much to this room at the moment but it was high time to replace the rather unattractive shade the previous owners had left us with…
We opted to replace it with this Fisherman’s Pendant Shade from Iconic Lights and could not be happier with the new look. It’s a great price and so easy to fit together, although Pete’s tips were to make sure that as you screw the glass bowl into the shade, to do so evenly using each of the three screws for a balanced finish.
The pendant shade takes a standard 60 watt bulb in a bayonet fitting but we loved the shade so much we opted to match it with a vintage-style light bulb which in our opinion really enhances the colour and style of the shade. Our light bulb came from Homebase but you can also order them online.
I’m so happy with the end result I would love to get another one, it’s not huge and because our dining room is a fairly decent size it looks a little lost- if I had a pair, then I’d use longer flex and hang them low over the dining table which would look perfect.
What do you think of our new shade? Do you like copper?

I bloody love it! I’ve been a proper copper fan girl since making our side tables for the lounge. We popped into a few light shops on our walk over the weekend and I just love these style of lights. I fear it’ll be a while however before we get round to replacing the shades we’ve been left with! xx
Yay thanks toots! I must admit it wouldn’t necessarily have been my first choice but I’ve totally fallen for it and especially when matched up with the lightbulb, it’s fab! X
Huge fan of copper over here! I think it looks utterly fabulous! xx
Thank you so much Esther for your comments, yes I think my eyes are definitely being opened! Xx
I’ve not got into this one either, but I must say, you have me interested now – love that!
I love how it turned out, just need to get the rest of the room up to scratch now! Thank you for stopping by X
I have copper accessories in my living room and I was reluctant at first too, but I love them, especially the picture frames, it makes such a change from wood. I love this light fitting, it is so striking x
It’s definitely growing me and I do think copper adds a lovely warm glow to a room X
I do actually like copper – but your comment on it being reminiscent of large copper saucepans in stately homes made me chuckle.
Your new lamp looks great (your previous owners’ one just had to go, lol!) and I think a pair hanging low would be fab.
Oh Molly, we’ve been left with all manner of “treasure” when it comes to lampshades. The longer I’ve lived here the more I’ve realised I have absolutely NOTHING in common with the previous owners!!
Ooooh I love it! I too have seen copper everywhere and this is stunning! This would look perfect in my study! Thanks for sharing! Much appreciated lovely 🙂 Jess xx

yes it would be a perfect lampshade for a study too because of it’s petite size, we have an industrial style shade in ours and I love it! X
Aaah copper 🙂 I LOVE the stuff and I’m really glad it’s getting a revival in the home department!
It was a big trend a few years ago but never really hit the mainstream interiors stores. So lovely. It gives everywhere a gorgeous, warm feel that other metals just don’t have. And it’s still really contemporary — unlike brass. Maybe that will come round — but I may take a bit of time to warm up to that one 😉 Love your new lamp. Thanks so much linking in with us on #HomeEtc — we really do appreciate it 🙂

Oh goodness, I can’t imagine I’ll EVER like brass, that is just trumpets and hideously old-fashioned door fittings. But stranger things have happened! Thank you for hosting X
Like you, I was not at all mad about copper initially. For a while a year or two ago it was all over the interiors magazines here in Germany. That lamp is lovely though. I really like that you have used a vintage style light bulb. It suits the shade perfectly.

I’m definitely the person who always wants to like the opposite of what’s popular and fashionable so maybe now the hoopla around copper has died down a bit it’s my turn! Thank you for popping by X
Love copper – its so rich and luxurious looking! It looks fab! #homeetc
Thanks so much Jen, it definitely has a lovely warm feeling to it, perfect as we head into autumn X
I know what you mean about copper – I’m still in two minds, some things I like and others I still think saucepans in stately homes (and I hadn’t realised until now that’s what I thought!) But that new light is a vast improvement on the old one! #homeetc
Isn’t it just? I definitely still not decided about it but it’s a step in the right direction x
I love this light 🙂 looks gorgeous,

Thank you so much Stevie, it definitely makes such an improvement to the room X
I am a big fan of copper, and have got a bit of a copper theme going on in my little home office. The bulb really sets off the shade to perfection. Becky x #HomeEtc
It’s definitely grown on me I must admit, and it seems to work well in most settings too X
Love, Love, Love!
Isn’t it pretty? Definitely made me rethink my love of copper thank goodness!! X
