Abroad Edit: We’re Going Away!

StPatricksCathedral

Ok so this post is coming a little too early to be properly excited BUT I am literally counting down the days until December when Pete and I are heading back to our very first holiday destination together, 11 years later. We’ll be packing our warm clothes, grabbing our spending money and zooming over the Atlantic for a long weekend in New York and I absolutely cannot wait.

Despite it being my second favourite place in the whole world and having been a few times in my early 20s, for some reason we haven’t been since 2005 when we went just after Christmas and saw in New Year’s Eve together in Times Square. It will be wonderful to retrace our steps but also see what’s new in the vibrant, exciting city and explore a little further afield than staying put in Manhattan.

I realise NYC is not everyone’s cup of tea but for me it’s always felt like home – it inspires, invigorates and gives me the feeling that anything is possible. Perhaps that’s why I love big cities. So many cultures, traditions and history (yes, even New York has a history), the thought of how many people would have arrived to that brave new world and built themselves a life out of nothing. Of course it has it’s iconic film status in everything from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Home Alone as well as one of my favourite TV shows, Sex and the City.

Our flights and hotel are booked which means all I need to do now is save up every spare penny so that when we go, I can do lots of Christmas (sshhh) shopping and we can enjoy ourselves exploring and trying some great restaurants. I intend to get very fat and and have already started stalking gluten-free NY bloggers on Instagram for inside tips into the best places to visit, but will also be taking my running shoes because a morning run in Central Park, providing it doesn’t snow, is a must.

Thoughts of getting away at the end of the year are definitely keeping me going away at the moment, we’ve made a big decision recently that I’m hoping will be all wrapped up by the time we disappear and I’ll be able to relax in the hotel spa with views of the city laid out in front of me and a bottle glass of champagne in my hand. Cheers!

Oh my, I’m insanely jealous. It’s one of the best cities on the planet with the most amazing food and shops and sights and people. And it’s going to be amazing, you lucky, lucky thing. I was there this time six years ago, a few months before my eldest was born. I can’t wait to go back but it probably won’t be for a few years now.

Argh see I love it when I come across people who adore New York as much as I do!! It’s the most amazing place and I can’t wait to go although I already know I won’t want to come home again and will end up with a super bad case of wanderlust X

Definitely add it to your bucket list, it’s such an amazing city even just to visit once in case you’re not really a fan. Every day I’m crossing another day off to be closer X
