Tips To Enhance Your Outdoors

I’m full on ignoring the current cold snap we have (snow on the forecast in March is not the one!) and tentatively starting to plan my vegetable garden this year now the green house is up. The beauty of gardens is that no matter how much or little space we have, there are always opportunities to change things, to create a garden we love and that works for us. So whether you’re searching for a new way to relax or want to add more plants, here are some tips to make the most of your outside space.

Retractable Privacy Screens

Retractable privacy screens are a great addition to any outdoor space being versatile, stylish, and functional.

The most obvious benefit of a retractable privacy screen is that it provides privacy. If you have a busy street or neighbours that can see into your garden, privacy screens can help you create a more intimate and secluded space. In turn, this can help you feel more comfortable and relaxed whilst spending time outdoors.

They can also provide shade and protection from the wind which given the increasingly extreme weather conditions we are experiencing is a blessing.

Retractable screens come in a variety of styles and colours, so they can be customised to match your home’s architecture and decor. This can enhance the overall aesthetic of your outdoor space, making it look more polished and stylish.

They are also adaptable to a variety of outdoor spaces, including patios, decks, porches, and balconies. They can be adjusted to fit and can be easily retracted when not in use.

Adding retractable privacy screens to your outdoor space can increase the value of your property by enhancing the overall appeal of your home and making it more attractive to potential buyers.

Using Foliage To Create A Beautiful And Unique Outside Space

The best way to make your garden look appealing is by using plants in different ways. From pleached trees to add structure, to a beautiful cottage garden full of colours and scents, with plants you can literally bring your backyard to life.

Plants also make an excellent screening option, providing a burst of greenery and substantial cover. There are many types of such plants, such as bamboo screen hedges which grow fast but require less maintenance than most other hedges.

Provide Relaxation By Creating A Beautiful Patio

Patios are a great area for relaxation and with an increased focus on outdoor/indoor living in the past few years, there is a huge amount of furniture and outdoor living options available to create a stylish space.

Consider how you want to use the space – is it sun trap that you can add an outdoor sofa or sun lounger too? In this case you may also want to think about a large parasol for shade, or a fire pit for the cooler evenings.

Perhaps a little table and chairs is enough to enjoy a morning coffee, or maybe you have a large family that enjoys al-fresco dining. The possibilities are endless, depending on space. Include a durable metal swing set in your outdoor area as well. This is a fantastic way to entertain your kids and promote outdoor play, which means keeping them away from gadgets and encouraging a more active way to spend their free time. Watch them live their childhood as you relax on your beautiful set-up patio.

Vertical Gardens And Pots

Even with a small space, there are plenty of options to make the most of it. You can use trellis on either walls or fences to create beautiful swathes of greenery, inviting wildlife and helping with privacy.

Window boxes, troughs that clip over fences or railings and even pots that can be clipped to drainpipes help to provide colour and make an otherwise bland space more appealing.

Amazing gardens can also be created entirely from containers – everything from herbs to trees can be kept in pots and allows you to constantly re-design and move things around easily to give a whole new look without too much garden maintenance. Just be mindful that pots will need regular watering so the plants can thrive without access to ground-based nutrients.

Don’t Forget Fencing

When we first moved in, our garden was very overgrown on both sides and wasn’t dog-friendly for our young puppy who kept escaping. Thankfully over time we were able to replace missing fences with our neighbours, and I then painted them to create a more modern, stylish look. If you don’t want to paint fences and have the budget, then cedar slats give a beautiful finish to a garden. Fencing can be expensive though so budget accordingly.
