Rings Dropped Down The Drain And Other Plumbing Adventures

Whilst most of us are probably quite content tackling some DIY activities, plumbing is one of those areas often best left to a specialist. Unblocking drains for example is reasonably straightforward but reconfiguring plumbing for a bathroom layout might be slightly more complex.

Here are some of the issues you can fix yourself and others that require a plumber to work with.

Things Being Dropped Down The Drain

While you might feel like calling an urgent plumbing repair service whenever you lose your wedding ring or another small item down the drain, you actually can solve the problem yourself without a lot of trouble, and all it takes is a little patience. First, carefully reach down the drain with the tap off if you can and see if you can feel the item resting in the drain.

If you can’t find the item, then you can use either a magnetic tool or a grabber tool (depending on if your item is magnetic or not) and attempt to push the tool down the drain to either grab the item or hook the item on the magnet. If this doesn’t work, or you can’t feel the item, you need to turn the water off to the sink and remove the drain plug to see if you can find the item.

Clogged Drains

If you run the tap in your kitchen or bathroom and notice that the water isn’t going down after you have turned the water off, then you need to make sure to treat your sink for clogs. Whether you have noticed that your sink is simply draining slowly or your sink is completely stopped up and filled with water, you need to work on removing the clog.

This can be done yourself if the sink drains, by either pouring a mixture of hot water and dish soap down your sink, or by using a drain snake or similar tool in order to break the clog up physically. If the sink is completely backed up and shows no signs of wanting to drain, then you likely need to call a plumber to fix the issue.

Burst Pipes

Now, this is one of the problems that require an urgent plumbing repair service by a professional plumbing company. Burst pipes are pretty normal during the winter, especially if the water has frozen and expanded, and that causes the pipes to crack. Then water leaks out of the pipes, sometimes in a steady drip and sometimes in a gushing torrent of water that is very noticeable.

A burst pipe has the potential to become a massive plumbing issue because the water coming out of the pipe will do a lot of damage to your home, so if you notice your water bill has shot up or lots of water damage is occurring around your home, you need to contact a plumber.

Don’t Be Afraid To Ask For Help

Plumbers have seen it all by this point, so no matter what drain adventure you happen to have been on, a plumber will have seen it and will know how best to fix it. So don’t be afraid to call a plumber if you run into an issue you can’t solve yourself, because they will be able to help you out.

Then you can get back to all the other adventures that you are equipped to handle, and won’t need to worry about a drain issue for a long time.
