In a bid to try and support my local high street, I popped into Bromley on Sunday to find some bits and pieces for our home. What can I say though? Online shopping properly spoils us doesn’t it? Especially with the likes of Pinterest, Instagram and Etsy for inspiration. I love supporting small, independent businesses so let me introduce you to Bristol In A Box.
The talent behind the business is Nina, a French Anglophile who moved to Bristol six years ago. Inspired by her adopted city, she takes incredible photos. These have formed the basis of a local lifestyle blog, Lifestyle District, which she runs with partner Dan. Keen to expand her love of photography, Nina happened on the idea of turning her printed photos into lightboxes.
As small businesses have a tendency to, Nina is creative with her space. The ‘workshop’ is in fact the kitchen in their Clifton apartment. She handmakes each and every lightbox, using wood for the frames which can be painted. Lighting is provided courtesy of a small battery-operated LED pack at the back of the frame.
I was delighted to receive one of the gorgeous lightboxes from Bristol In A Box and after looking at all the images on our website, I settled on ‘Carpe Diem’. Not only is this one of my favourite mantras, there was something so appealing about the bygone time element of the photo. Funnily enough, it was never intended to live on the console table in our hallway but it works perfectly and this is where its stayed since we received it.
As dubious as I always am on receiving more fragile items through the post, Nina ensures that the packaging is protective whilst also gift-wrapping – another winner for independent businesses as far as I’m concerned. They do go the extra mile.
I’m so pleased with our lightbox and think it’s the perfect addition to our hallway. What do you think?
Even better, Nina is very kindly going to give one lucky reader a lightbox of their choice! Open to UK entrants only, you have until July 31st to complete the rafflecopter. Please do show some love and support this fantastic small business. Good luck!
