From DIY To Upcycles, My Favourite Instagrammers Right Now

This is a post that I have been SO excited to write for the last couple of months because oh my goodness there is just tons of inspiration out there and I’ve really loved following a few people in particular who have helped me to think outside the box so much.

It’s not necessarily about home renovations, and these aren’t accounts who are decorating and decorating the same space over and over again which I’m just never going to be here for to be honest. What grabs my attention is accounts that give good stories, that share really helpful guides and how-to’s, that do things a little bit differently and that I really look forward to seeing what they’ve been up to. A little bit of DIY, a little bit of craft, some budget, hopefully you may find one or two accounts that are new for you.

Luke Arthur Wells

I think anyone who has seen any of Luke’s insane transformations will agree with me that he is just so talented and can really see past the ordinary. Some of my favourite projects of his are using an H&M tablecloth to recover a chair and his gorgeous concealed wood slatted door. I love that he can look at anything, even an old unloved canvas picture and see the potential to turn it into something else. The latest super project for me has to be the lux-looking coffee table made out of MDF and duct pipes.

I can’t remember how I found Michaela’s beautiful account but it has gone from strength to strength and it’s such a joy to watch. Not only does she have what seems like one million beautiful cats (including one of Boo’s many online doppelgangers) but she has created the most incredible home with her partner, watching YouTube videos to help them learn along the way. I did slide into her DMs and ask her what her partner did assuming he MUST be a trader but no, they’ve just developed a fantastic double-act of DIY and make it look so effortless. Some of my favourite projects are their sliding barn doors and their terrazzo hallway floor. It’s a must-follow from me for Michaela because she really does have such a beautiful home.

Geneva van der Zeil

Of course a post like this couldn’t go by without me mentioning Geneva’s account. I basically would very much like to be her and I just adore her home, lifestyle, projects, the lot. She again shares such helpful guides and I think my favourite element of her account is the incredible upcycles. She inspired me to tile my outdoor coffee table after I saw her transform a table she rescued from the side of the road and I also painted Christmas baubles for the tree this year inspired by her. She’s been in this content creation realm for a really long time and there’s just something so calming about her personality.

Grizzle Abode

Jess is a relatively new discovery for me after I saw her takeover on Medina (Grillo Designs) stories and I just fell for her bubbly personality immediately. She is so friendly and warm and is so willing to have a go at all manner of DIY from laying her own floor to upcyling little tables. Of course, she was my inspiration for the lollipop sticks turned into herringbone top for my chest of drawers and I must have watched her videos on this a million times. I love that she isn’t phased by anything and tries to figure out a solution that is easy for people to follow and budget too.

Girl And A Drill

Suzie is my new BFF and I’ve already told her that I’m leaving Pete to move in with her. I don’t think I’ve come across anyone who just gets stuck in with the big guns of saws and drills and measurements, oh my goodness, the measurements. For someone who is a lot more haphazard than that (me!) I love her attention to detail and she encourages me to not be scared of things I don’t yet know how to do. After all, this time last year I didn’t know how to tile and now I’ve done it twice. She recently made an amazing planter out of MDF and latch fabric and I can’t wait to see what she does next.

The K Wendy Home

Another new account that I found in the run up to Christmas last year and was immediately caught by her Christmas crafting and now, the most creative Reels that take so. much. work. She has an amazing account which has mostly developed since she has been furloughed from the airline industry in Canada and her brilliant ideas plus super lovely personality make this one of my favourite accounts to check in on every day. I’m excited to see what she gets up to this year.

Home of Shade

Another new find from Medina’s story takeovers, I’m a little bit obsessed with Shade’s amazing skills, including her recent home office reveal and covering a sofa with faux boucle. Again she shows how much is achievable through hard work and shares fantastic tips via her Instagram and YouTube channel. I haven’t had a chance to delve too deeply yet but it’s a little bit of a favourite of mine at the moment.

I’m sure there are so many I’m missing that I had on my original list but I’ll either keep adding to this one as I come across new accounts or I’ll just create new blog posts. I hope you’ve found some inspiration in amongst the accounts I’ve shared and do let me know in the comments below if you have any other suggestions.
