There are all kinds of reasons why you might feel low on energy. If it happens, you might wonder what’s going on. Sometimes, the answer is obvious, but other times, not so much.
Here are eight reasons why you may not have as much energy as you’d like.
You’re Not Eating a High-Quality Diet
If you’ve ever asked yourself why am I always hungry and tired, the answer might have to do with the type of food you’re putting in your body. Your body can only perform as well as the fuel you put into it. If you feel like the food you’re eating is not satisfying you, and you feel fatigued often, it may be time to overhaul your diet.
You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep
You may also feel low on energy if you’re not getting enough sleep. Getting to bed earlier is the easiest way to combat this. You should also try to have a set bedtime and adhere to it as much as possible.
You’re Not Getting High-Quality Sleep
Maybe you’re getting a good amount of sleep, but the sleep is not of a very high quality. You can get a fitness wearable to track how deeply you’re sleeping. There are also phone apps that can help you determine how deeply you’re sleeping now.
You’re Depressed
Maybe you’re low on energy because you feel depressed. You may have intermittent depression, or you may have acute depression if you feel low for weeks or months at a time. Visiting a mental health professional and getting a diagnosis is the right move if you suspect this is what is happening to you. It’s Winter
Some people must deal with SAD, or seasonal affective disorder. You’re Dehydrated
Many people go through life being dehydrated frequently, and they don’t even realize it. Beverages like coffee or sugary soft drinks dehydrate you. Switching from those to water the majority of the time can give you more energy. If it does, you’ll know that was definitely the problem.
You Need a Caffeine Boost
You may also have a caffeine habit. It’s not the worst addiction to have as long as you don’t overdo it. Submitting to the urge to get a double shot of espresso once per day is probably fine. If you’re downing several cups of coffee each day, though, you’ll need to cut back.
You’re Sick or Have an Undiagnosed Medical Condition
You may also have an undiagnosed medical condition or illness if you feel low on energy a lot. If this feeling persists for weeks at a time, go see a doctor and get yourself checked out. You may have some obscure illness or condition.
