As a brand, Joseph Joseph are synonymous with taking household gadgets to the next level. Creating something both functional and stylish isn’t always an easy task. But in my mind this creative and innovative brand have it nailed on. We’ve always been fans of Joseph Joseph and are trying out their Titan Trash Compactor, bringing new meaning to the word ‘bin’.
Our kitchen is not my favourite room in the house by quite some way. It’s bijoux (ie miniscule, how a family of 5 coped I’ll never know) and in desperate need of an update. But we do what we can to make the best of it and now have a rather stylish new gadget. Albeit one that looks slightly out of place but we’ll ignore that.
So let’s talk rubbish! We recycle. A lot, as much as we can and I hope everyone else does too. There will always be rubbish however and the Joseph Joseph Titan Trash Compactor more than does its bit to reduce our environmental footprint. What’s so special I hear you ask? Well, let me tell you.
The main trick of this fabulous device is of course in the name – it compacts. What that means in laymans terms is that its patented system enables it to hold up to 3 times more waste than similar-sized household bins. The equivalent of 90l in fact. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me. It means less waste, less trips to the outdoor bin, fewer bin bags.
And if you think leaving waste in your bin for longer than normal creates a bad smell, think again. The lid cleverly conceals an integrated odour filter meaning nasty pongs are no more. Once it runs out, simply order replacements and slot them in. We’ve been using ours for a week now and so far so good, which for a bin full of left over cat food is impressive.
Compacting is as easy as can be. Simply use the floor pedal to lift up the lid, then grasp the handle at the front and push up and then down into the bin. The liner collects around the rubbish as you push down leaving plenty of space for more. So confident are Joseph Joseph of the technology that the bin comes with a whopping 10 year guarantee! It has also passed Consumer Quality Assessments at the Good Housekeeping Institute and they certainly know a thing or two about quality.
With its lid-stay feature and fingerprint-proof stainless steel, there’s really nothing that Joseph Joseph haven’t thought about. I was worried it would be too big for our diddy kitchen but looks absolutely at home. The bin accommodates normal liners but for just £12 you can pick up a pack of 30 custom-made ones and some odour filter replacements so that’s what I’ll be doing.
All in all, so far the Titan Trash Compactor is proving to be very far from rubbish and will hopefully find a new home when we eventually build our new kitchen!
The Joseph Joseph Titan Trash Compactor is available here for £199.00. I have been generously gifted one for the purpose of an honest review. Thank you for supporting the brands which feature at Boo & Maddie.
