Tulips, freesias, daffodils, carnations (yes!), hydrangeas – there’s nothing quite like having fresh flowers at home. I know it’s an indulgence and they don’t last forever, some people might think it’s a waste of money but for me having fresh flowers dotted about the place is a finishing touch that transforms our house into home.
I recently went to a lovely evening of flower-arranging using faux flowers with HomeSense at Somerset House and they were so stunning, modern and stylish and looked incredibly realistic. Yet no matter how far they’ve come it’s just not quite the same.
It’s the scent, the vibrancy, watching the buds come into bloom, the knowledge that there is something living in our home aside from us and Maddie which isn’t creating a mess and brings a pop of colour on even the darkest days.
There are no favourites for me and it’s more a case of whatever we fancy rather than following the crowd and doing what everyone else does. We recently paid a visit to Columbia Road Flower Market, stocking on so many pretty blooms for such great value. I do love tulips at this time of year but freesias smell heavenly and yellow is the perfect colour for spring.
For me, our home wouldn’t be quite the same without them. A little more bare, a lot less colourful.
