Well the time has come that after two years of self-employment I’m now back working full-time, hooray! Despite our little his ‘n’ hers office that was our first renovation project around six years ago, the truth it was never intended for both of us to be in there all day every day. We’d probably end up on the fast-track to divorce if we had to. So I’ve had to think outside the box and make my own little space and I’m so pleased how it turned out.

The wonderful team at Vasagle have helped me on my mission to create a practical yet warm, comfortable space in one of our spare bedrooms, very kindly providing my new desk. Vasagle have an incredible collection of practical, stylish, durable, and easy to assemble furniture mainly in a wood and industrial style design. From coffee tables to shelving to computer desks to side tables, they’re very versatile and the best part is so very affordable whilst not compromising on quality.

I wanted a simple desk for my space, with no need for multiple screens or storage and knew that if I had storage I’d end up unnecessarily cluttered. The Vasagle desk reminds me a lot of our coffee table in the living room and although I don’t normally favour such dark wood, it complements our paler wooden floor in the spare room beautifully.

The desk was also very easy to put together, it even came with its own mini screwdriver for the job and certainly beat the instructions or lack thereof of everyone’s flatpack furniture destination. With 4 little feet that you can screw into the bottom of the legs it’s also easy to adjust to account for uneven floors so there’s no need to worry about unstable tables.

As the desk arrived just the day before I started work I didn’t have a chance to prettify my home office area until later and in my head had thoughts of painted arches or colour blocking, maybe buying some shelves or making a peg board. Somehow though when it came to it, all it really needed was a few items borrowed from other parts of the house and it’s become exactly the space I needed without even realising.

For me, a work from home area has to be comfortable (so yes, that does mean rolling in my not so attractive office chair but we can’t win them all!), inspiring, calming and motivating. I added a lamp for darker days that had been boxed up in a cupboard for the last two years. A beautiful smelling candle that I’ve recently treated myself to as a “hey, congratulations girl you got a job”. A coaster for the endless amounts of tea I drink. A plant for that little bit of nature and greenery and because snake plants are really good for air purification. Mr D bought me a super cute pen pot from Liberty and some pens to go with it and then finally my planner/note book.

That’s all I need, nothing else to take up space or distract me from work but at the same time enough to make me smile as I start up work for another week. Thank you so much Vasagle for giving me a helping hand to this new chapter in my life!
