Remember that heatwave earlier in the summer? It’s a long distant memory after one of the most damp and miserable Augusts. But if there’s something us Brits are great at, it’s getting on with life regardless of the weather. So it was that I ended up in bed, on a blustery August evening on Brighton beach watching La La Land, courtesy of ibis Hotels for the #inbedwithibis campaign. Random or what?!
Escaping London for a breather is always good for the soul. Dragging Pete along for the ride, we hopped on a train from London Bridge which take just over an hour to Brighton. The ibis Brighton City Centre is an excellent location, literally two minutes walk from the station. It’s a fun, practical hotel where bar staff double up as reception so check in is quick and pain free.
Our room had everything we needed for an overnight stay and featured the new ibis SweetBed™ to ensure a great night’s sleep. Minimalist they may be but often less is more when it comes to beds. I pick simplicity and function over excess every time. Dropping our bags and grabbing our VIP passes and sweeties, the beach beckoned under dark skies.
To showcase the ibis SweetBed™, the hotel chain has paired up with Big Beach Screen Events so you can watch your favourite events from the comfort of your very own bed, hence #inbedwithibis. With 5 beds in total under a pretty canopy, there is a fantastic view of the screen. Did I mention the VIP experience includes popcorn and a glass of something adult?
Beer, wine and more popcorn than we knew what to do with. Our host Bill Murray (I know right?!), director of Big Beach Screen Events was so very welcoming we felt right at home. As La La Land got underway, I snuggled into my ibis SweetBed™ and the waves crashed onto the beach.
I’ve never experienced open-air cinema before, what a treat. The speakers were positioned so well it was easy to hear and everyone concentrated on the film. It was such a chilly evening that had it not been for the bed, I would have been too cold. Although, ya’ know, Ryan Gosling does warm the cockles…
Anyway before I disappear off into ‘Hey Girl’ memes, after the film we toddled back to the hotel, fighting against the tide of A-Level results celebrants and feeling VERY old. But my days of partying like an 18 year old are thankfully well behind me and curling up #inbedwithibis and a hot chocolate did the trick perfectly.
On Friday we had the day off to explore but I’ll save that for a separate post. If you find yourself in Brighton and need a super-convenient place to stay, make a beeline for the ibis Brighton City Centre. Comfy beds, practical rooms and friendly staff. Job done I think.
Thank you so much to ibis Hotels for inviting me on this complimentary VIP experience including a night at their hotel. All words, opinions and images are my own unless otherwise stated.

What a lovely idea – we have no outdoor cinemas near me so I always get very jealous!

We have loads across London but I just never know what to do about the weather because with most of them you have to buy the tickets up front. If only Britain was more reliable hey? X
Oh wow, this looks like a great night Lins, I have always wanted to visit Brighton 🙂 #PoCoLo
