Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Would you consider laser hair removal? Are you curious about how effective it is? I had my first experience back in 2019 and would wholeheartedly recommend it. Laser hair removal is when hair is removed from the face and body using a laser. This is done by exposing the area to powerful pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicles and ultimately disrupt hair growth in that region.

This treatment is a cumulative process that requires a course of treatments to see the best results. It works by reducing the number of unwanted hairs in each area during the growing phase of the hair follicle, and this can lead up to a 90% reduction in hair growth. I had a series of treatments, I think 5/6 for my underarms. But is laser hair removal a permanent solution for hair removal?

Results will definitely vary from person to person and it’s expected that results will be best on people with fairer skin and darker hair (rather than blonde hair, for example). Although it cannot guarantee a permanent loss of hair, the process of destroying the follicles does cause a permanent reduction in regrowth. This does not eliminate the hairs from growing back 100% but the hair will be less dense and a lot less volume.

After the first treatment, most clients can expect a significant reduction in hair. In the first few weeks post-treatment, hair will begin to shed and become thinner, and this is usually seen between the 1-to-3-week period after the first session.

After a course of treatments, some clients can expect to see great results of up to 90% hair growth reduction. Others may need to take an additional course or occasional top-ups to maintain the hair reduction. Despite this, almost anyone who gets laser hair removal will see a significant difference in the density and amount of hair on the treated areas.

For everyone, a course of treatment is necessary, as laser hair removal works best when the hair follicles are in the new-growth cycle. Laser hair removal London technique is a very effective and long-term solution for unwanted hair. It is important to note that results may vary, and there are various factors that can influence the effectiveness of the treatment. These include the area of the body being treated, the colour and thickness of the hair, the client’s skin tone and the machine used. Also, hormone imbalances and even genetics play a part on the results.

Hair Colour

The basic principle of Laser hair removal is the heat permitted by the laser damages the melanin pigment in the hair follicle and not the surrounding skin. For this reason, the colour of the client’s hair and skin tone can influence the effectiveness of the treatment. Individuals with darker skin tones have less contrast between their hair and skin complexion, so the follicles are slightly harder to target. However, here at Pulse light Clinic the Gentle Max Pro is used, which penetrates deeper into the skin, picking up only on the hair and not the pigment in the skin. In general, laser hair removal is most effective for dark/thick hair on paler skin tones as the hair follicles are more prominent and, therefore, easier to target.

Maintenance

For long-term hair reduction, some clients may need a few maintenance sessions once they have finished their course to ensure the hair follicles don’t regenerate. The number of treatments needed will rely on the individual and many are so happy with their initial treatment course they do not return for maintenance. I’ve found that after my initial session of treatments back in 2019, I do need to have a couple of top-ups for my underarms. But the regrowth is minimal and I only need to shave every couple of weeks.

Body Part

The area being treated will determine the likelihood of regrowth, as some parts of the body naturally grow hair faster. For instance, the lower leg area usually requires 8 sessions, whereas on somewhere like the face, a client may need anywhere between 15-30 sessions in total.

Laser hair removal is the most popular form of skin care today, and for good reason. Not only is it incredibly effective at removing hair, but it can also result in incredibly smooth skin that is free of unwanted hairs for years to come that not only looks but feels great! In comparison with many other techniques like shaving and waxing, laser hair treatments are by far a much more effective method with long-lasting results. Even though some of the hair may return, it will usually appear much lighter and thinner upon any regrowth. Therefore, it is by far the best option to slow and minimise hair regrowth, causes permanent hair reduction. It’s like an all-in-one skin treatment that gets rid of unwanted hairs and improves skin texture and appearance – all while giving you long-lasting results.
