This week I made a decision to try and get out and about more when I’m at work. Ok, rewind since obviously I do have a job to do but actually I’m also entitled to take an hour’s break at lunch time and in 12 years here I’ve probably taken no more than 2-3 months of lunch-breaks. Yet there is so much to see and do in London and I’m the most guilty person for not taking advantage of it. Pete and I have have frequent conversations about how fast time goes which makes it all the more important to take time out and do things, and to stop and appreciate the little moments but somehow it feels far easier to carry on with the daily monotony of every day chores. No more!
So in no particular order, here are some of the things that have made me smile and be thankful for last week:
-The beautiful colours and sunny morning in my local park where I took Maddie for a walk whilst working from home on Monday
-Popping back to where I used to live in West London to visit the Victoria and Albert museum on Tuesday for the gift shop’s festive preview and finding a giant pink origami unicorn head which I totally need in my life
-The fact that even though our house is in long-term renovation disarray most of the time, coming downstairs in the early morning the hallway always seems flooded in light and I’m so pleased with our beautiful new console table and in our tiny little kitchen there is one pretty patch of work surface space that doesn’t make me entirely despair of trying to cook in there.
-After just two weeks in our lives, how well Boo is settling into home with us. I spent Monday with he and Maddie and then Tuesday after work obsessively watching them but Wednesday I had such a lot to get done in the evening that there was no choice but to let dog and kitten get on with it and the development of their relationship is phenomenal and a joy to behold.
-Meandering down Bermondsey Street in my lunchbreak on Wednesday, popping into pet shop Holly and Lil to pick up some treats for Boo & Maddie, a little bit of interiors browsing and then some treats for me.
-Spending some quality time with Pete on Thursday evening after Pilates at the Horniman Museum for their Brazilian evening with contemporary dance and exhibitions. We need to do more of those sorts of things. And as we walked down from the car through the museum gardens, the beautiful evening light and view over London.
-Getting to Friday and celebrating with cheeky little G&T after work. I’d love to stay I was out at a super stylish bar but no, exhausted after a week of very early starts it was back home with feet up I’m afraid. And on Saturday spending a couple of hours in the garden, replanting some pots and painting all my terracotta ones grey in our leftover masonry paint from the front of the house. They look so, so good now and very smart. Plus, painting for me is very therapeutic so it’s win-win.
-Finally on Sunday, making it through a 7 mile half-marathon training run early in the morning with Pete for company and then coming home for his speciality fitness breakfast, egg white omelette with spinach and smoked salmon. He got through a lot of these doing his fitness routine earlier this year and they’re so yummy.
